This is my second running blog so I am just going to get it started and then leave it until I get back from Vietnam (joannecumberland12).
On Friday, November 10th (afternoon), I received the School of Business 'news'. there was a notice on there that Camosun was hoping to offer an opportunity for Camosun staff and faculty to participate in a two week field school to China in May. I mostly just saw that it was first apply/first accepted so no time to stop and read the fine print or broad details. I filled out the application and saw that I needed a Director signature.
It was Friday, Lynda (my direct boss) was away, Jodi, her boss was away. So, I pestered Sandra, Jodi's Admin person. She scanned my documents and emailed them to Jodi who provided a signature on Monday morning which I submitted immediately. I hear I was first in.
I realized later that day that I forgot to ask/tell Lynda what I was doing. She didn't even get too mad at me when I casually mentioned the next day that I had already applied and gotten Jodi's signature without asking her first. She may have just given up the will to try to keep us all in line. Or maybe she thinks it's a good idea. Hard to say.
I just got my acceptance letter on Dec 15. Still some wrinkles to work out. How will CUPE professional development funding cover this? Will it be vacation or will work cover my time? All to be determined.
I am using most of my vacation days for Vietnam but I saved exactly enough to cover China too just in case. However, this means I don't have any additional vacation days for 'transition' time. I get back from Vietnam on Wednesday and have to be back at work on Thursday. That is not going to be pretty. If work covers my China field school days, I can also use a few extra days of vacation to tack on the end for a few 'tourist' days. Again, TBD.
